Following the studies on English teaching methods, let's take a look at the Audio-lingual method.
At first glance it is easy to notice many similarities between the Direct method and the Audiolingual method. First, both approaches use only the target language. Second, students are encouraged to always speak up, and finally, communication is the top priority in both methods. However, there are some differences and we will point them out below.
* The audio-lingual method is based on the grammatical patterns of sentences, but in a communicative approach.
* There is a strong influence of behaviorism, as the method seeks to create new linguistic habits learned through the use of the target language.
Thus, unlike the Direct Method, whose approach takes place in an almost natural way, based on non-grammatical or linguistic topics, the Audiolingual method seeks to create new patterns of English through repetition, substitution and, finally, the inductive use of a language after complete learning. * Positive reinforcement for correct answers and immediate correction of errors.
* Dialogues as starting points.
* Focus on English sentence patterns through specific strategies:
- Backward build-up (expansion) drill
- Repetition drill
- Chain drill
- Single-slot substitution drill

- Question-and-answer drill
- Use of minimal pairs

Seguindo os estudos sobre métodos de ensino de inglês, vamos dar uma olhada no método Audio-lingual.
À primeira vista é fácil notar muitas semelhanças entre o método Direto e o método Audiolingual. Primeiro, ambas as abordagens usam apenas a língua-alvo. Em segundo lugar, os alunos são incentivados a sempre falar e, finalmente, a comunicação é a principal prioridade em ambos os métodos. No entanto, existem algumas diferenças e vamos apontá-las abaixo.
* O método audiolingual é baseado nos padrões gramaticais das frases, mas em uma abordagem comunicativa.
* Há uma forte influência do behaviorismo, pois o método busca criar novos hábitos linguísticos aprendidos por meio do uso da língua-alvo.
Assim, diferentemente do Método Direto, cuja abordagem se dá de forma quase natural, baseada em tópicos não gramaticais ou linguísticos, o método Audiolingual busca criar novos padrões de inglês por meio da repetição, substituição e, por fim, do uso indutivo de uma língua após o aprendizado completo.
