Total physical response is a method that uses commands for specific actions performed by students. Using at the same time oral language, chunks, imperative forms and students' physical responses, the method is an interesting approach through which meaningful learning occurs.
After a few repetitions of commands, the teacher stops acting according to the lines and starts to speak only the commands, at this moment the students become able to hear only the commands and act according to them.
At the right moment, students begin to feel confident to speak slowly, repeating the same method used for themselves, according to Freemman 2008:
"Asher says that students will want to speak after ten to twenty hours of
inst ruction, although some students may take longer, Students should not
be encouraged to speak until they a re ready."
